Throughout Europe, the manufacturer of a product assumes product responsibility for packaging in terms of avoidance, reuse, and recycling. This is implemented in Germany through the Packaging Act (VerpackG).
In this context, the Central Packaging Register is responsible for registering and publicizing those responsible for the product and ensuring transparency and legal clarity through other tasks (e.g., data reporting). Further ecological goals, such as meeting recycling quotas and financial support for more sustainable packaging, are monitored by the Central Packaging Register.
